New Renault 5 EV: Pricing, Release Date & Full Specs
New Renault 5 EV recently released a teaser of their production-ready 5 E-Tech. However, the entire car has now been leaked through patent images published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). These images show the subcompact model in all its retro-modern glory. It’s a stunning electric vehicle that will replace the Zoe. What’s even more exciting is that Renault’s performance division Alpine will use this as the basis for an electric hot hatch.
The leaked images of the Renault 5 E-Tech reveal the same charge indicator light on the hood that we saw in the teaser. Additionally, the car has two charging ports, one on the left front fender and one on the right front fender. The wheels of the car have been largely carried over from the concept, although the alloys seem slightly smaller in size.
What’s New?
It’s important to note that the third-generation New Renault 5 EV will be an electric-only car, but it won’t have its own dedicated EV platform. Instead, it will use Clio’s underpinnings and up to 70 percent of the hardware to reduce production costs. The platform is called AmpR Small (formerly CMF-B EV) and, interestingly, it will have a multi-link rear suspension, which is unusual for a B-segment car. This is expected to result in sharper handling.
Exterior Design and Lighting System
The dark headlights of the car have LED graphics that are shaped like human eyeballs, inspired by a vintage ad for the original Renault 5. The New Renault 5 EV welcomes the driver with a wink as part of its “human interface”. The taillights, on the other hand, are mounted vertically and represent a significant nod to the classic Renault 5, joined by a black trim piece and subtle extensions from the side panels that enhance the aerodynamic performance of the hatchback.
The production version of the Renault R5 has some differences when compared to its concept. It loses the rear light bar and replaces it with a black trim piece, has bigger side mirrors, and features traditional front door handles instead of the flush ones seen on the show car. The handle for the rear doors, now mounted on the C-pillar, is also bigger. The black roof and red accents are indicative that this is a high-end version of the small electric vehicle.
New Renault 5 EV Interior:
The New Renault 5 EV is a small car, measuring only 154 inches in length. It is slightly longer than the two-door Mini Cooper and has a storage capacity of 11.5 cubic feet in the rear which can be increased by folding down the split-folding rear seats.
The interior has seats with a design inspired by those found in the R5 Turbo, along with denim-like trim made from recycled plastic drink bottles. The car has two 10.0-inch digital screens which serve as the gauge cluster and infotainment hub, while the gear lever is a chunky stalk attached to the steering column. Although the car has seating for five people, it may be a tight squeeze for three adults to fit in the rear bench.
Powertrain, Battery and Range
New Renault 5 EV will offer two different battery options, with capacities of 40 and 52 kilowatt-hours (kWh), respectively. Each of these battery options will be paired with an electric motor that delivers either 120 or 150 horsepower (hp). The more powerful combination can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than eight seconds.
According to Renault, the car’s maximum range is 248 miles, as measured by the WLTP test cycle (used overseas), although this range may be lower when using the stricter EPA cycle. The batteries in Renault 5 E-Tech support bidirectional charging and can charge at rates of up to 100 kW. New Renault 5 EV batteries will have a higher energy density compared to the Zoe. The new EV will be smaller, measuring just 154.3 inches (3.92 meters) in length.

In terms New Renault 5 EV pricing, Renault is aiming for around €25,000, which is equivalent to approximately USD 27,000 at current exchange rates. The global debut of the Renault 5 E-Tech is scheduled for February 26, 2024, at the Geneva Motor Show.
